Whilst this may appear to be under-performing, it is neither suprising nor unexpected. Four months may feel like a long time, but 38 tournaments is not even nearly a large sample size. We have experienced such runs before, and we have always recovered from them.
The overall chart gives us some perspective. The four month “blip” of variance we have had may feel like a long time, but it becomes less noticeable in the 5 year graph.
Our benchmarked golfers had a notable omission in February. The Kenya Open is the only tournament that is missing from our results due to a “fairness” clause we enacted. Whilst there was value on the tracker for this tournament, we want to be fair and we only benchmark players that are easily available – generally at 3+ bookmakers from outside the only bookmaker family.
The value appeared a little thin in the Kenya Open, so we decided not to put any golfer on the Weekly Options page. However we run an alternative service (Weekly Golf Value at Smart Betting Club) for the purpose of independently proofing our golf tracker. We included the Winner in this service, picked off the tracker – Darius Van Driel at 55/1. It is notable to think that the only tournament we have ever missed from the results we had the winner at reasonable value on the tracker. These are the sorts of mishaps that will be lost in the midst of time over a large sample size.
